Addiction Treatment Built for the West Hollywood Community
West Hollywood is home to one of the largest and most visible queer communities in the world. It is also a community that carries specific, documented health disparities around substance use, mental health, and access to care that actually understands what its members are going through.
Breathe Life exists because that gap was never acceptable. Our program was built by and for people who know what it means to navigate addiction while also navigating identity, chosen family, stigma, religious trauma, and a healthcare system that was historically designed around someone else entirely.
Our CEO, Beck Gee, is a trans man in recovery himself. Our clinical team includes people with lived experience in the queer community and in recovery. When you walk through our doors in West Hollywood, you are not the exception to the program. You are who the program was built for.
Who We Serve
We work with adults 18 and older from all backgrounds and identities. Our program was built with the LGBTQ+ community at the center, and our doors are open to everyone who feels aligned with our values of dignity, inclusion, and whole-person care.
Gay, bisexual, and queer men, including those navigating chemsex, hookup culture, and the specific intersection of substances and sexuality
Trans men and women who need hormone continuity and gender-affirming care woven into their treatment from day one
Nonbinary and gender-nonconforming people whose identity is treated as a clinical starting point, not an obstacle to navigate
Lesbian, bisexual, and queer women seeking affirming care in a community that reflects their experience
Young adults navigating identity, substances, and mental health during a formative and often turbulent period
Professionals and creatives, including musicians, artists, actors, and entertainment industry workers who need discreet, high-quality care
HIV-positive individuals managing complex sexual health needs alongside addiction
People navigating chemsex and sexualized drug use who need a program that understands the culture without pathologizing it
Straight individuals who want a progressive, affirming, and clinically excellent environment
Chosen family and loved ones, welcomed into the healing process alongside our clients
We Are In-Network With Most Major Insurance Providers
Most major insurance plans cover addiction and mental health treatment as essential health benefits, and our admissions team verifies your benefits directly, usually the same day, at no cost and with no obligation.
If you are uninsured or your plan does not cover the full cost, we will work with you to find a path forward.
Substances and Co-Occurring Conditions We Treat
A snapshot of the conditions and substance use disorders we most commonly work with, though our programs are designed to meet a much broader range of needs than any list can fully capture.
- Meth, Cocaine, GHB & GBL
- Alcohol, Opioids, & Benzos
- Cannabis & Psychedelics
- Chemsex & Sexualized Drug Use
- Intimacy & Attachment Disorders
- PTSD & Complex Trauma
Other co-occurring conditions we treat include depression and anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, shame, minority stress, and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-related distress.
Chemsex Treatment at Breathe Life West Hollywood
Our chemsex track addresses the specific intersection of substances, intimacy, identity, and attachment that drives sexualized drug use in ways that generic addiction models never reach.
We work with clients to understand their relationship with substances and sexuality without pathologizing either, helping them build a healthier, more intentional connection with their bodies, their desires, and their communities.
What We Address in Chemsex Treatment:
- The relationship between substance use and sexual behavior, including how they became intertwined and why
- Attachment wounds and intimacy challenges that chemsex often develops around
- The role of apps like Grindr, Scruff, and Sniffies in patterns of use
- PrEP continuation and sexual health as a standard part of care, not a separate conversation
- STI testing and HIV status support integrated into the clinical program
- Building the capacity for intimacy and connection without substances being a requirement
This is not sex addiction treatment. We do not treat your sexuality as the problem. We help you understand what the substances have been doing for you that you have not yet found another way to access, and we build that capacity together.
Our Therapies and Clinical Modalities
Every treatment plan at Breathe Life is individualized and draws from a range of evidence-based and holistic modalities based on what each client actually needs. Our therapies include:
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): Identifying and reshaping thought patterns that drive anxiety, depression, and substance use
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): Building skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and healthier relationships
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT): Developing psychological flexibility and living in alignment with your values
Somatic therapy: Working with the body to process what talk therapy alone cannot reach
Motivational interviewing: Exploring ambivalence and building intrinsic motivation for change
Trauma-focused therapy: Addressing what is underneath the substance use, not just the substance use itself
Art therapy: Creative expression as a pathway for processing and healing
Music therapy: Sound and music as therapeutic tools for emotional regulation and connection
Yoga and mindfulness: Somatic grounding and nervous system regulation
Family therapy: Chosen family and biological family equally welcomed
Our Programs and Levels of Care
Recovery is not a single moment. It is a process, and the right level of support changes as you do. We offer a full continuum of care so that your treatment evolves with you rather than requiring you to start over somewhere new.
Medical Detox: Our medically supervised detox program provides 24/7 clinical monitoring, medication-assisted support where appropriate, and a care team that stays with you through every stage of the withdrawal process.
Residential Treatment: Clients live on our 22-acre campus in a private, community-focused environment that feels nothing like a clinical facility. Days include individual therapy, group work, somatic healing, and community that makes recovery feel possible.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP): PHP offers the clinical intensity of residential treatment with the option to return home or to sober living each evening. Clients participate in full-day programming, including therapy, psychiatric support, and skills-based workshops.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): Sessions typically take place several days a week of focused clinical programming fit around work, relationships, and everyday responsibilities, while keeping you closely connected to therapeutic support and community.
Sober Living: Our sober living program bridges the gap between structured treatment and independent life. Clients build accountability, life skills, and community connection in a recovery-focused environment as they transition toward independence.
Outpatient: Our outpatient program stays connected to the same clinical team and community built during more intensive treatment. It is designed to sustain what residential and PHP began rather than starting with a new provider.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT): We offer MAT where clinically appropriate. We accept clients on Suboxone and can incorporate buprenorphine into treatment plans for those with opioid use disorder. We can not accept clients who are actively on methadone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be LGBTQ+ to come to Breathe Life?
No. Breathe Life was built with the LGBTQ+ community at the center, but our doors are open to all adults who feel aligned with our values of dignity, inclusion, and whole-person care. Many of our clients are straight-identified. What matters is that you are looking for a progressive, affirming, and clinically excellent environment.
Do you provide PrEP and sexual health services?
Yes. Sexual health is integrated into our clinical program as a standard part of care. We offer STI testing and support clients in maintaining their PrEP regimen throughout treatment. We use affirming, modern sexual health language that reflects how our clients actually live.
Can trans clients continue their hormone therapy during treatment?
Yes. Hormone continuity for trans and nonbinary clients is a clinical priority at Breathe Life, not an afterthought. We work with your prescribing physician to maintain your hormone regimen throughout your stay.
Do you accept clients on Suboxone?
Yes. We accept clients who are on Suboxone and can incorporate buprenorphine into treatment plans for those with opioid use disorder where clinically appropriate.
Do you accept clients on Methadone?
No. We are not currently able to accept clients who are actively on a methadone regimen. If methadone is part of your treatment history, our admissions team can help point you toward a program better equipped for that level of care.
What is your phone and device policy?
Phone access is structured during treatment to support your recovery focus. Our admissions team will walk you through the specific policy during your intake call so there are no surprises when you arrive.
How long does treatment last?
Length of stay varies depending on your level of care and clinical needs. Residential treatment typically ranges from 30 to 90 days, with longer stays available. PHP and IOP are structured programs that typically run several weeks to months. Your treatment team reassesses regularly so that your plan evolves with you.

This is pretty awesome. The staff for the most part is great. And the thing is liked about this place the most is they were patient enough with me the first time I was here. They allowed me to land emotionally the second time not so much but I left 5 stars because the CM’s were very kind as well as the nursing staff. Blake is my spirit is amazing and most of the staff are extremely empathetic towards 3veryone not just people within the LGBTQ community.

My experience with Breathe was amazing and truly life-changing. The therapists are highly educated and helped me explore my issues deeply. Kathleen, the clinical director, is remarkable, and her group sessions are among my favorite memories. The campus is beautiful and serene, and the food was excellent. The alumni program keeps me connected, and I’ve made some lifelong friends there. I would absolutely recommend Breathe to anyone who is struggling.

80 days sober today! 🎉 I have been at Breathe since May 5th, 2025 and this has been a life changing experience. I will grieve this experience when I leave at the of this month. I discharge on the 25th and I feel I’ve been equipped with all the tools needed to stay sober. The staff are empathetic, compassionate and well educated on addiction recovery. I’m going to cherish all the memories I have at Breathe. I have met some of the most amazing people— friends I will hold dear to my heart for the rest of my life. If you’re struggling with addiction or an eating disorder, come be apart of the Breathe community. It will be tough but so worth it. I’ve unpacked 40 years of trauma here; leaving Breathe with freedom, healing and self compassion. I’m looking forward to a life free of substances and binge eating. Thank you, Breathe for saving my life!

I spent 90 days at Breathe just about a year ago and it changed my life. The staff there guided me through dealing with some underlying emotional issues I had been overlooking for years. The care I received from the entire staff on campus and at the clinic was amazing. Their alumni program is incredible as they are big on following up and supporting former patients even after they leave the facility. I would highly recommend Breathe to anyone who is struggling with addiction issues.

As an interventionist, I have brought several people to Breathe for substance abuse treatment and co-occurring issues. I love this program. I have had great success with the individuals I brought here because of the clinical services provided, the environment, the quality of the treatment team and the fact that it is owned by individuals who are passionate about recovery. I have a bias against chain programs and prefer those that are owned and operated by people who are in this field to help others. That is what Breathe does!!! I have brought LGBTQ clients and straight or sis gender clients and both are welcomed equally and given the same overwhelming amount of love and acceptance. Highly recommended!!!!

Several years ago a family member was struggling with an eating disorder as well as alcoholism. My loved one needed to address both issues simultaneously. I called all over the country and at that time Breathe Life Healing Center was the only treatment center that said they would do this. My family member admitted, stayed for 100+ days, and left Breathe firmly planted in recovery. They continue, now several years later, with ongoing recovery. I attended Breathe’s Family Classes and was impressed with that service as well. Breathe Life Healing Center is amazing. Lovely, comfortable surroundings, truly excellent staff and very responsive to family members. Thank you Breathe!

I went to breathe on Jan 9th 2021. I almost have 3 years in recovery and I was angry at Breathe, depress, lost, lost everything broke my addiction to get out of a serious situation I was in. My family wanted nothing to do with me and today it’s different, I made amends with my Parents, Aunt, Uncle ,Cousins and friends. I managed to quit smoking at Breathe thanks to Brad at smoking session group he hosted. I have rebuilt my life and I get to be there for my family. Breathe has prepared me for the future, it was not a vacation in Breathe, give it time and one day a time! Great staff and you will develop wonderful relationships. Thank you Breathe..
