What is it

What Is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is one of the experiential, creative approaches available at Breathe. Like every therapy we offer, how it shows up in your plan is worked out with your clinical team, not applied as a one-size-fits-all track.

Art therapy is one of the experiential, creative approaches available at Breathe. It gives you a way to process what's happening internally when words alone don't quite reach it, through drawing, painting, or other creative work, guided by a trained therapist rather than left unstructured.

Like every therapy here, it's folded into your individualized plan, not a stand-alone track. It runs alongside your clinical care, offering a different entry point into the same work happening in your other sessions.

Do I need to be 'good at art' to participate?+

Art therapy isn't about skill or producing something polished, it's about process, not final product.

Is art therapy a substitute for talk therapy?+

It works alongside your clinical treatment, offering another way into the same underlying work, not a replacement for it.

What does an art therapy session actually involve?+

Creative work, drawing, painting, or similar, guided by a trained therapist who helps connect what comes up to your broader treatment.

Is art therapy only for people who struggle to talk about their feelings?+

It's useful for anyone, whether or not talk therapy comes easily. It simply offers a different way in.

How often are art therapy sessions offered?+

Frequency depends on your specific level of care and treatment plan. Your team can walk you through what your schedule includes.

Is art therapy covered by insurance?+

It's included as part of your overall treatment plan, not billed separately. Our admissions team can walk you through what your coverage includes.
