Questions people ask about sober living
Straight answers about house rules, structure, and what continues alongside it.
What are the rules in a sober living home?+
No substances are allowed on the property. Residents follow house expectations like curfew, keeping work or school commitments, and helping keep the house maintained. It is not a 12-step program, and meetings are not mandatory. Rules are explained clearly, and not following them can result in being asked to leave.
How many people live in a sober living home?+
Our enhanced sober living has 15 beds, and they are typically full.
How is sober living different from residential treatment?+
It is structured like residential care, and how much independence you have depends on the house. At our PHP house, coming and going follows the program's structure. At our IOP house, clients can come and go for work, school, and daily activities, while still living in a structured, substance-free environment with accountability built in.
Is sober living a treatment program?+
Yes. Enhanced sober living is structured like residential care, and each house is tied to a level of care, PHP or IOP, so clinical support continues alongside where you live.
How is it decided whether I should move into sober living?+
You and your treatment team assess your progress and ongoing needs together. There is no fixed timeline, everyone recovers at their own pace.
What are the benefits of sober living compared to going straight home?+
A built-in support system of people who understand what you are going through, structure that helps rebuild responsibility, and an environment kept free of the substances and situations that could trigger relapse.
Is sober living covered by insurance?+
No. Sober living is not covered by insurance. The clinical care that runs alongside it, like PHP or IOP, is a separate question, and our admissions team can verify those benefits before you commit to anything.
